It's that time of year again for the highly regarded 39th annual "Great Dock Canoe Race".
The Dock at Crayton Cove (a waterside restaurant located at 8th Street South and 12th Avenue S. in Olde Naples) started the event back in 1977, the year they opened for business.
The race was initially nothing more than an end of season party. Since that time it has morphed into one of the most anticipated and well attended events of the year. Always a ton of fun. A true tradition in Naples.
The race is a themed event where people decorate their canoes and take part in a 3 mile race through Naples Bay. A few of the past themes for the race were; Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves, Star Trek, Noah's Ark, and Blazing Paddles.
This year it's themed after the extremely popular trilogy of novels called, The Hunger Games.
