Renovating Vintage Homes

12/12/12

There is a trend sweeping through Old Naples that has the vintage Old Naples cottage in focus. Over the past few years many homes built in the early part of the last century have been renovated in keeping with their original style. Since 2010 13 homes built prior to 1940 have sold. A few of these were purchased, renovated, and resold for a healthy profit for example; 287 11th Avenue South was purchased for $1.5m, renovated and resold for $3.275m, 295 2nd Avenue South was purchased for $780k, renovated and resold for $2.6m both of these were handled by Gulf Coast International Properties. A few local builders have also embraced the design of the "Old Florida beach cottage" and have had huge success with new construction in this design. There are now several areas such as 15th Avenue South and 8th Avenue South by Cambier Park that have been called "Cottage Row" because many of the homes in a stretch are quaint tin roof homes, with inviting front porches, wide plank wood floors, and Pecky Cypress ceilings. Many of the older homes in Naples have become landmarks and stand out amongst the larger surrounding homes built over the past few years. If you take the time to walk the streets and alley ways of downtown you will see there is still plenty of opportunities to start a project or enjoy the fruits of someone else's vision. Before long you can be sitting on your porch enjoying the beach breezes as the neighbors stroll by, living exceptionally.
