Collier County's fiscal year begins next month, and so far this year the county has collected over $18 million in tourist tax, up from $15.5 million. The taxes come from different sources, including hotels and vacation rentals that include apartments and condominiums.

According to a monthly report by the Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention & Visitors Bureau, in July alone, taxes were up  18 percent from $838,300 to $990,660 compared to July of last year. Overall Collier County tourist tax collections are up more than 16 percent in this fiscal year, due to an  increase in the number of visitors and their spending habits. Shawn Bleh 239-207-0761
