When it comes to boats and boating a question that comes up consistently in conversation is "What's the draft?" (the draft being the minimum water distance requirement a boat/vessel needs below the engine intake to safely navigate waters).
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) The term “bathymetry” originally referred to the ocean’s depth relative to sea level, although it has come to mean “submarine topography,” or the depths and shapes of underwater terrain.
Naples communities like Port Royal have deep water ways, deep enough for the draft of 100+ ft yacht in fact. Other areas like Seagate which is also on the water have a draft that makes motor boating pretty much impossible. It's much too shallow for getting around in anything other than a boat that requires no draft at all.
