December Traffic Up at Southwest Florida International Airport
The increase in travelers reflects the strong growth of our local economy in addition to those vacationing here or spending time at their seasonal home due to the intense cold and freezing rain wreaking havoc up north. A total of 7,970,493 travelers used the airport in 2014. Passenger traffic in December 2014, at the Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) totaled 765,288, which represented an increase of 4 percent from December 2013. In the 31 years RSW has been in business, 2014 represented its second biggest yearly passenger total with December also breaking all previous records for that month. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 4.4 percent from the same period last year. Delta was the traffic leader with 165,177 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (136,729), JetBlue (87,373), Spirit (78,692) and US Airways (74,980).
